Magical-Psychedelic-Funkylicious -Boots

Have you ever been on a ride so magical and delicious that it makes you feel funkylicious? Well I have……………. So it was a friday, another boring-ass day, stuck at the office, staring at the computer screen, hoping and praying to the universe that Dwight ( my idiot manager) doesn’t ask me to stay late or pile any more paperwork on me. God forbid his royal highness lift a flipping finger himself. I was just about ready to pull my ears out, listening to Louis: Good Morning Papers Are US, how can we help you today? In her screeching banshee-like high-pitched voice, over and over again. It was pay-day and my pay cheque wasn’t even close to what I was hoping for, I really shouldn’t have bought that $50 dollar fly swatter, if I work-out more I can swat flies bare-handed.

Well, I might as well walk home I thought, I couldn’t afford an uber anyways. As I walked down the loud-ass street, filled with garbage, aromas of cigarette, piss and dog shit, a peculiar character caught my eye. A homeless dude dancing on the corner of my street. I was blown away by his dance moves! Damn! I wish I could move and groove like that. His long, dark, wild, curly hair swinging in the air as he twirls, his electric slide so smooth, so mysterious, so mystifying. He was wearing long, six-inch, purple, platform boots with white stars on them. He looked at me with those brown eyes and said, “Get funkified girl” as he took the boots off and handed them to me with such coolness and grace

I was finally back in my crappy condo, grumpy, tired and hungry. After a long-awaited bath, I slipped into my comfortable white robe. I picked up my new purple boots feeling filled with curiosity. As I slipped them on, I felt a vibrance surge up through my spine, shooting up through the top of my head, POW! The most potent desire to move, shake my butt, swing my hips, pop and lock my chest came over me, the sound of “Hey Ladies by the Beastie Boys filled my head, Hey ladieeees…….Ding Ding Ding, Ding Ding Ding. All I wanted to do was dance, I have never felt more magical, delicious, colourful, funky and psychedelic. I danced the weekend away, I wore the boots to work on monday, I did the Lambada with Dwight and I tap danced with Louis, I even shuffled with Ray Ray the office intern who annoyed the crap out of me before. We sang, “Everyday I’m shufflin” as we sliped and slide through the office hallways. These boots were magic, and so was I. On my way home that day, I spotted a sombre looking woman sitting at the local park. I danced over to her and said in a singy song voice “ Girl Get Funkified” as I passed over the boots, I watched her sad beautiful green eyes lite up with amazement and a wonder I have never seen before. This was 10 years ago and we are still in love.

Land of fire and Ice, Home of the midnight sun

If you are looking for a European gem, filled with nature's contradictions and a history filled with Vikings and nordic tales, then Reykjavik is screaming your name! It is the biggest and capital city of Iceland with a population of around 120,000 and it’s considered to be one of the cleanest and greenest places in the world, making it a very popular tourist attraction. With its subpolar oceanic climate, Reykjavik temperatures rarely drop below -15 Celsuis, making winter the perfect time to admire the most breath-taking Icelandic northern lights. Summertime in Reykjavik proves to be just as unique with its long days and the sun bursting through the windows at midnight. Vider is a very convenient and easy to use weather app, allowing you to track Icelandic weather all across the country during your stay in Reykjavik. One of the best ways to explore Reykjavik is to book a food tour of the city, giving you a chance to taste authentic icelandic street food and socialise with fellow tourists and Reykavic natives. Just a short distance from the city centre, you will find Laugardalslaug, Reykjavik’s largest and most popular pool, equipt with 7 hot tubs, a steam bath, a cold bath, two 50 metres pools and a large water slide. Geothermal spas such as the muscle melting Blue Lagoon are abundant all across Iceland, making swimming in Reykjavik an-unmatched experience. Other popular Reykjavik attractions are: The Perlan, a one of a kind museum featuring some of the Wonders of Iceland and it’s natural beauty, Grotta Island Lighthouse displaying a 360 view of the landscape, and the Reykjavik Old Harbour offering a perfect whale watching front row seat. Reykjavik has over 100 cafes, which magically turn into nightclubs in the evening, keeping the party going until 4:30 am on the weekends and 1:00 am on the weekdays. It is not uncommon for Reykjavik citizens to move the celebration and dancing to the streets post closing time. Beer was illegal in Iceland until March 1st, 1989, however it is considered a very popular drink in Reykjavik currently, and there is no need to bring Icelandic cash since credit cards are accepted everywhere in the country. Icelandic New years eve is a particular time of celebration, since the use of fireworks is legal during this time of the year, illuminating the city with firework displays!

Where my money goes

R.png

Where my money goes Health or wealth? My story of how physical and financial fitness merged as one I never thought of myself as Mrs. Athlete and If you told me 15 years ago that I would be getting paid to teach group fitness classes I would laugh in your face! Yet here we are. Sure I could work out at home, but who has the energy and where do I even start? Picture this, it’s 2010,Youtube isn’t a thing yet, so no free fitness classes and if you are keen on staying healthy and strong your best bet is to join a really expensive gym. I was a stay-at-home mom at the time with limited financial resources, and even though I adored being with my energetic, ball of fire toddler, I found myself desperately missing the energy of a gym, I felt lonely and out of shape, unfortunately joining a fitness club of any kind was far too expensive. Sure I could work- out at home but who has the energy and where do I even start? It was love at first lift At the age of 19 I began lifting weights, it was love at first lift, soon after that, I began trying different styles of group fitness classes, yoga, kickboxing, pilates, spin, I loved it all and I couldn’t get enough.
